AMES, Iowa — The Opus Group has announced plans to construct a six-story residential and retail complex near the Iowa State University campus. The facility, known as The Foundry, will feature 53 units and 144 bedrooms with 7,500 square feet of ground-level retail space.
AUSTIN, Texas — Construction of the new Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin is currently underway in the southeastern portion of campus. A ceremony at the construction site was held April 21 to unveil a new mosaic rendering of the project.
HONOLULU — On April 19, the University of Hawaii Information Technology Center (UH ITC), along with project architect dck Pacific Construction, LLC, received the General Contractors Association of Hawaii’s (GCA) highest recognition. The UH ITC facility won first place in the Excellence in Building Construction category for projects valued at more than $40 million. The UH ITC building also received the Grand Award, which, according to a release issued by the university, is chosen from all submissions, and is considered the “best of the best” as voted by the judges.

BALTIMORE — The Modular Building Institute (MBI) has recognized Williams Scotsman, an Algeco Scotsman company, with first place awards for two of the firm’s relocatable and permanent modular projects. The awards honor innovation and design excellence within the commercial modular space industry, and were presented at the annual MBI Awards of Distinction ceremony on March 24.
NEW YORK — Barnard College has selected the architecture firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM) to lead design of the schools new teaching and learning facility at its Morningside Heights campus. Upon completion, the new facility will house a 21st century library, as well as several state-of-the-art computational science and learning labs.
COLUMBIA, Mo. — A $190 million patient care tower addition to the University Hospital in Columbia, Mo., received LEED Gold certification. The eight-story replacement facility, which opened in March 2013, was designed by HOK, with offices in St. Louis, and constructed by JE Dunn Construction of Kansas City, Mo. It is the largest expansion ever for University of Missouri (MU) Health Care.
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – Major renovations and a 31,000-square-foot expansion project have been completed on Mendota Heights’ Salesian-run Visitation School. The two-phase project infused the more than 140-year-old institution with new life, while preserving and celebrating its rich history.
