TOPEKA, Kan. — The Washburn University Board of Regents moved even closer to breaking ground on a new 350-bed student residence on June 11 when they approved the hiring of HTK Architects of Topeka and KwK Architects of St. Louis. The two firms are now tasked with preparing architectural drawings for a new student housing and dining facility to be built on the east side of campus.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan is helping bring a future of networked and driver-less cars closer to reality with its soon to be completed Mobility Transformation Facility (MTF). This 32-acre vehicle test complex will open on the university’s North Campus in fall 2014. University representatives and industry members of the school’s Mobility Transformation Center (MTC) held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the facility in May.
NEW YORK CITY — Brooklyn Prospect Charter School has selected Loci Architecture of New York to expand the school’s Windsor Terrace campus. The innovative expansion will include converting part of an existing church convent to classrooms and offices, and is expected to take place this summer.
MILWAUKEE — Divine Savior Holy Angels High School (DSHA), an all-girls Roman Catholic school, held a groundbreaking ceremony and Catholic mass service on May 1 celebrating the beginning of the school’s $12.5 million enhancement project. The project was funded entirely by the Building on Our Faith campaign intended to help the school provide a stronger education for future students.
BOULDER, Colo. — After a record-breaking year of private donations, the University of Colorado Boulder (CU-Boulder) broke ground on a $143 million athletics facility expansion on May 12. The project will include several new athletics buildings and upgrades to the university’s Folsom Field.
HARTFORD, Conn. — The Connecticut General Assembly recently passed a measure to funnel more than $522 million into statewide school construction and renovation projects. The bill, SB No. 475, was approved almost unanimously, with only two lawmakers opposing.
SB No. 475 authorizes the Department of Administrative Services commissioner to enter into grant commitments for 21 new school construction projects, totaling $180.7 million. It will also reauthorize and change grant commitments, due to cost and scope changes, for nine previously authorized projects.

NEW RIVER, N.C. — Sundt Construction Inc. and its joint venture partner United Builders Group have been selected as the prime contractor to build the new Delalio Elementary School at Marine Corps Air Station New River in North Carolina. The school is a project of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA).
ST. PETER, Minn. — The Beck Academic Hall at Gustavus Adolphus College has earned LEED Platinum certification. The $30 million, 125,000-square-foot building is the third academic building to attain LEED Platinum certification in the state of Minnesota.
