K-12 education planner and designer Taryn Kinney, AIA, LEED AP, joined DLR Group to lead the firm’s Texas K-12 Education practice in Houston. She will be responsible for growing the firm’s presence in Texas, working with K-12 education clients and communities to elevate educational opportunities for all students.

Omaha, Neb.-headquartered HDR recently announced that H. Michael Smith, AIA, LEED AP, has joined the firm as a director for HDR’s Education, Science, Tech (EST) program. He will lead the EST program in Charlotte, N.C.; Atlanta; Tampa, Fla.; Dallas and Houston, and will develop and nurture strong relationships with clients and institutions across the academic, science and technology sectors.

Nick Stephenson, an associate with education industry planning, design and construction management firm Quattrocchi Kwok Architects (QKA), earned the Accredited Learning Environments Planner (ALEP) designation, a mark of excellence that reflects the knowledge, skills and abilities of a competent educational facility planner.

Timothy McGrath, AIA, REFP, recently joined Wold Architects and Engineers’ Palatine, Ill., office as design principal. McGrath brings more than 35 years of experience with a special focus on educational design. He has been instrumental in creating many notable school buildings, from K-12 to higher education and specialty learning environments.

Eric Feldman, AICP, is an urban planner who has been promoted to senior associate with the Washington office of landscape architecture, planning and urban design firm Rhodeside & Harwell. Feldman has experience ranging from land use planning, urban design and neighborhood revitalization to environmental impact analyses and public realm design.
