States Continue to Decrease Education Funding

WASHINGTON — The quest for education funding was already a constant battle before the economic collapse in 2008. The resulting downturn only made the situation worse. As a total sum, funding for elementary and high schools has dropped compared to the previous year in 26 states, many of which already faced budget cuts in the years and months leading up to the financial catastrophe. To make matters worse, 35 states have watched its school funding sink below 2008 levels.

Attleboro Mayor Vows to Fix Field

ATTLEBORO, Mass. — Attleboro Mayor Kevin Dumas recently announced his plan to replace Attleboro High School’s track and field facility with a $2.5 million project, which will also replace the grass football field with synthetic turf. The new surface will also be used for soccer, lacrosse and field hockey. The work will include adding new bleachers, fencing and a replacement for the old press box. A new concession stand and bathroom will also be built, although that part of the project will be funded by boosters and fundraising efforts.

Kansas State Stadium Getting Facelift

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State University’s Bill Snyder Family Stadium is getting a new look this off-season, as a new building is slowly rising on the western edge of the field. The Wildcats are looking forward to a new seven-story, 250,000-square-foot structure, housing the future press box and ticket office beginning with the 2013 season, but are fortunate to be able to use the stadium in its current form while work is being completed.

District Roots for the Home Team as New Track Nears Completion

BELOIT, Wis. — On your mark, get set…go! Track athletes at Beloit Turner High School in Beloit, Wis., will now be able to host a home meet, thanks to a $1.2 million track renovation.

The school was unable to host a track meet for the last two years due to the track’s poor condition, making it unsuitable for athletes, according to Brad Boll, business manager for Beloit Turner School District.
